Larne Voluntary Welfare Group was established around 1981 and now exists along with 26 similar groups helping mainly retired police and their immediate families. The groups meet together about 4 times a year to discuss matters of mutual interest and act as a pressure group to obtain better benefits, conditions and representation for all members.
We liaise and socialise with neighbouring groups. We also have links with other police groups in NI such as Retired Police Officers Association, RUC GC Association and Branches, Widows Association, Parents Association, Disabled Police Officers Association. We also link with Decorum NI.
Generally we endeavour to ensure individuals do not feel isolated or forgotten but remain or become part of a caring police family in Northern Ireland.
Like the other Voluntary Welfare Groups we are entirely voluntary. We do not have any paid staff or own/rent premises for administrative work.
We generally consider ourselves to be victims and/or survivors of The Troubles.
