CALMS has often been described as “An oasis in the middle of a busy city centre.”
CALMS first came together in Derry/Londonderry City towards the end of 1994. The organisation is now based in its own dedicated premises in the City Centre. CALMS itself is an acronym for Community Action for Locally Managing Stress.
The organisation focus is on the prevention and management of stress. Accordingly it concentrates services, activities and approaches that are preventative and rehabilitative in nature. The project is a process that includes:

- L Learning new skills and techniques with rehabilitative therapies/programmes
- M Me Time
- S Supportive and Caring Environment
