Advocacy Support Network

........................................................................................................................

The Advocacy Support Network was developed in 2017.

Advocacy Support’ within this context is the provision of advocacy support to victims and survivors specifically within the areas of Truth, Justice and Acknowledgement.

The Advocacy Support Network ensures that victims and survivors have access to high quality practical support when engaging with on-going legacy inquests, inquiries and any other historical institutions relating to legacy matters.   The network also ensures that the voices of victims and survivors are acknowledged and heard through oral history and other storytelling initiatives.

The following organisations are funded by the Victims and Survivors Service to provide regional advocacy support to victims and survivors through a team of Advocacy Support Workers and Managers:

What is an Advocacy Support Worker and what can they help me with?

An Advocacy Support Worker can assist you to engage with legacy processes. This means they can help you to research events that happened during the Troubles, and to communicate with institutions such as the Police Ombudsman, the Coroner, and the Public Records Office.

Our Advocacy Support Workers have experience of working with victims and survivors, and understand the sensitivity and importance of your information needs.

They can also help you explore through oral history or other ways to ensure your story is heard and acknowledged.

Our Advocacy Support Workers are based in the organisations listed above. Feel free to contact them directly. They will treat your query in confidence.
