The Truth Recovery Programme — a co-design project between the Northern Ireland Executive Office and victims and survivors of Mother and Baby Institutions, Magdalene Laundries and Workhouses — has launched its new and improved website.
The website highlights the important work of the Truth Recovery Programme and provides users with key information such as links to help and support services (such as VSS), access to report documents, and ongoing news updates. Visitors to the website will now benefit from improved accessibility and user-friendliness, thanks to a new mobile layout and integrated social media platforms to make information-sharing as fast and hassle-free as possible.
Since its foundation in 2018, the Truth Recovery Programme has worked to meet the demands for truth, justice and acknowledgement made by victims and survivors of Northern Ireland’s Mother and Baby Institutions, Magdalene Laundries and Workhouses. Following interviews and a call to action, the Panel’s remit is promote the truth surrounding:
- Personal and family experiences
- How the institutional, forced labour and family separation system operated as a whole
- How it was enabled to operate
- How it impacted on girls, women, their children, partners, and subsequent generations
The Programme centres around a Truth Investigation, which will be led by two groups – an Independent Panel with complementary professional expertise, and victims and survivors’ representatives. This is designed to allow for a flexible, non-adversarial process of investigation using diverse methods of evidence gathering, research and public engagement. Ultimately, the Truth Investigation will gather testimonies and provide a full report, to run in parallel to a full Statutory Public Inquiry.
The Programme hopes the new website will be used as an informative resource, as well as a point of contact for victims and survivors who have not yet come forward, and who may wish to participate in the Truth Investigation process.
