New Commissioner for Victims and Survivors appointed

........................................................................................................................

Joe McVey has been appointed as the new Commissioner for Victims and Survivors, bringing extensive experience in supporting vulnerable communities and strategic leadership.

The Commissioner for Victims and Survivors works to safeguard and promote the interests of victims and survivors through three key areas: addressing the past, effective service provision, and building towards a better and more reconciled future.

Mr McVey was Chief Executive of Brain Injury Matters (NI) from 2019 to 2023, where he led a regional disability organisation supporting those affected by acquired brain injury. He also founded Blueprint Development Consultancy, working with public, community and voluntary sector organisations for nearly two decades.

His voluntary sector commitment includes serving as Chair of the VSB Foundation and Golden Thread Gallery, and as a Trustee of the Linenhall Library. He was awarded an OBE in 2010 for services to the voluntary sector.

VSS Chairperson Dame Sandra Horley:

“We warmly welcome Joe McVey into his appointment as the new Commissioner for Victims and Survivors. His extensive experience supporting vulnerable communities demonstrate exactly the compassionate leadership this vital role requires.

We look forward to working with Joe in his new role and supporting the Commission’s important mission of building towards a better and more reconciled future.”
