About VSS

What We Do

........................................................................................................................

The Victims and Survivors Service (VSS) delivers support and services to improve the health and wellbeing of victims and survivors.

We deliver funding and support on behalf of The Executive Office in the following areas:

Troubles/ Conflict

We are here to assist all victims and survivors identified in the Victims and Survivors (Northern Ireland) Order 2006.

This means that we can provide support to those who have been affected in the following ways:

  • those who have been injured (physically or psychologically);
  • those who care for people who have been injured in this way; and
  • those who have been bereaved.

Historical Institutional Abuse

We are here to assist all victims and survivors identified in the Historical Institutional Abuse (Northern Ireland) Act 2019.

This means that we can provide support to those who suffered abuse as a child whilst resident in an institution (e.g. a children’s home, borstal or training school) in Northern Ireland at any time between 1922 and 1995 (inclusive).

Mother & Baby Institutions, Magdalene Laundries and Workhouses

We are here to assist those impacted by Mother & Baby Institutions, Magdalene Laundries and Workhouses, including those impacted by related institutions and historical adoption practices associated with related institutions.
